Newspaper: Five More Months of Pain

The news continues to be bad for the economy, and newspaper circulation continues its downward spiral. Some of the major newspapers in the country are wondering if there is an end. In just four years, the LA Times has lost 20% of it’s circulation, the San Francisco Chronicle has dropped 30%. The Boston Globe is down 20% and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution 17%. Only a few in scattered markets have been able to gain any circulation or stay flat.

Can You Hear Me?

Scott Dishman owns a hearing aid company in Huntsville, AL. He opened his own store about seven years ago. Over the years he tried everything to drum up business – newspapers, outdoor, radio, cable tv, all with limited success. He bought a cable package because it seemed to be a “good deal”, lots of commercials spread over many cable channels. Scott didn’t think he could afford Network Television and, besides, they reach a large area and he just has one store. The cable venture was the most disappointing. After two years of cable advertising, he thought maybe three people had mentioned his ad.

Scott attended our Effective Advertising Seminar in Huntsville in 2007, sponsored by WAFF. He learned why his cable advertising didn’t work…you don’t reach the audience with any frequency, therefore there is no retention, and the campaign doesn’t work. To be successful with any advertising you do, you must REACH your potential customer with enough FREQUENCY, and reach them on a CONSISTENT basis.

Scott purchased a commercial package offered by WAFF at our seminar in 2007. He told us at this year’s seminar that 2007 has been his best year to date. He attributes his increase in business to his advertising on WAFF. Broadcast television works and is affordable. If you want to grow your business, make your TV account executive your new best friend.

If you live in Louisville, Knoxville, or Roanoke/Lynchburg, we hope to see you at one of our seminars in the next few weeks. Please let us know if you would like to attend one of our seminars, or would like us to come to your town.
